1. BLACK: ASIKO – DAREY FT. JOZI & ICE PRINCE

Mr. Art Alade; the Veteran Darey, bangs with another single produced by Chocolate City’s artist extraordinaire Jesse Jagz in collaboration with Soul Muzik team – glorious beat by Jesse, the notes by the keyboard is really pleasant and Darey delivers exceptionally on this beat. Da.LES of Jozi came on this record with that kinda Drake flow, Continue reading

MUNA FINALLY APOLOGIZES TO MODE9 (ON TWITTER)

      KYOS: Finally, the moment everyone had been waiting and demanding for finally occured yesterday evening as Muna came out on twitter to apologize to Mode9 (so, I guess we should thank God for social networks eh? Since they make apologies much easier)*lips sealed*. Anyways, she did so on twitter but I’m still wondering why Mode9 hasn’t replied. It’s all good though, cuz quite frankly this is the moment everyone had been anticipating. Hopefully, artists will make us continue to focus on their “good music” and not their “clashes”, in the end people it’s all about one love and respect.

MUNA DISRESPECTS MODE9 (SHE SHOULD APOLOGIZE)

KYOS: During a competition by Nokia called “NOKIA DON’T BREAK THE BEAT COMPETITION” Muna (the Host) rudely expresses her opinion to the general public (audience) which directly (or indirectly) disregard’s Mode9′s judgement. But before i give my genuine review of this ‘ill-mannered’ act i’ll like to clarify some issues first;

1. Who is a Judge? A judge is a person who presides over court (but in this case, it’s a competition) proceedings, either alone or as part of a panel of judges (as defined by Wikipedia): Meaning a Judge’s ruling is the final verdict and can never be subject to anyother pserons’ (please correct me if i’m wrong).

2. Who is a Host? The term host is most often used to describe a male (hostess in feminine form) presenter for an event (as defined by Wikipedia): Meaning that, a Host’s job description basically, entails seing that the programme runs smoothly.

Muna: Who are you gonna base this on?

Mode9: It’s TKO

Muna: I don’t agree with you, i don’t agree but let’s pass the mic!

If you guys listen carefully you’ll hear an audient who asked angrily, “who are you?” which is exactly what came to my mind as well when i heard her utter such. Now let’s take this one by one;

1. She says she doesn’t agree with him, fine its your right (or left :D ) but the only time that she could have been permited to say such was if she was given a seat as part of the panel judges (please remind me again if i did see her stand).

2. Muna: “I don’t agree but let’s pass the mic” (WTH!!!!). What mic did she have authority over asides the one she had in her hand?! That was just going too far for me.

Mode9: That’s why i’m a judge

Muna: C’mon, i have a say too you know!

Errr….. No you don’t have the authority to express it in public as the host, duh!!! I mean this chick even goes further on to say that her opinion matters, NO IT DOESN’T because you weren’t awarded as a judge for the competition.

My conclusion: No matter who are, respect & humility is key. Just because you are a celebrity doesn’t mean you have the right to express your opinion in that manner, it was rude and ill-mannered. I’m actually a fan of Muna but by my nature i don’t do sentiments which is why i wrote this and feel Muna should apologize.

Don Jazzy Launches New Record Label – Mavin Records

Don Jazzy has just launched a new record label called MAVIN RECORDS. This is definitely not a surprise following the public split with D’banj some weeks ago. Artists on the imprint are Wande Coal, D’prince, Dr. Sid and finally a first lady, Tiwa Savage. I’m really excited about this development especially with Tiwa’s addition. Their firsr compilation album, SOLAR PLEXUS (as seen in the picture above) drops tomorrow.

So if you’re as curious as I am, you’ll probably be wondering what it all means. You know, what does “Mavin” and “Solar Plexus” mean? Is Jazzy trying to make a statement? We have the definitions below:

1. Mavin (Pronounced May-vin) is also known as ace: that is a trusted expert in a particular field, who seeks to Continue reading

M.I – BEEF (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

KYOS: Wow!!! Gini definitely knew what he was doing with this video, I know most shallow minded critics and fans won’t get what the video actually depicts. ‘BEEF’ in this context is a metaphor. Kele (the major cast in the video) was sent to market to get ‘beef’ which apparently he couldn’t afford. Kele typifies ‘wack a** rappers’ or simply ‘amateur rappers’ who are outwardly beefing M.I. and whether they like it or not are using him as an avenue to promote their album sales. Gini & M.I *salute*. Watch & enjoy.

MicCheck12 Roundup (Week 17, 2012)

Welcome to MicCheck12 Roundup. Here, we bring you (every saturday) a summary of the best songs released for a particular week and the order in which they rank. Obviously, this means our daily reviews would be reduced, meaning we would be able to focus on videos, albums and our Special articles during weekdays.

This week we analyse eight songs and give you the ranking in ascending order.

(Note: There’s a table after the write up showing the ranking of the songs)

8. Bust Me Brain (Freestyle) – Iyanya (Produced by D’Tunes)

PREACH: Coming in at eighth place this week, Iyanya brings to us this feel good

tune/freestyle which honestly is just a waste of studio resources (and session). D’Tunes  comes correct with this nice beat only for Iyanya’s delivery and flow to be weak and poor with remixed lines of other songs. C’mon – a job he didn’t even do well.
This is only a regression from his “Kukere” joint which is doing well on the radio airwaves. Continue reading

Teeklef – Enroute

BLACK: This record is major. Teeklef just blew my mind with this record and I’m sure it’s gonna blow yours as well. Ima start with his voice, it’s awesome and it makes the chorus amazing. Basically, Enroute refers, to leaving this particular girl of his, in order to see things clearly, the little rap was cool as well, reminds me of a complete package of RnB, were you’ll have to sing all through and drop some 8bars to spice up the record. The production was Nice as well. An emotional person is gonna unwind and reminisce on this record, especially if this message is directed to you. It’s Klef Records Y’all. #BISmixtape coming soon.Good Job Teeklef. Listen and Enjoy!

NormBreaker – The Bridge Ft. Skales

Black: The Bridge is a duo comprising adekunleGOLD and Seyikeyz. The Bridge presents ‘NormBreaker’, their unique style is really impressing and inspiring. Basically, Normbreaker refers to ‘Change’, how they wanna make history and break boundaries. I love this record right here cause it doesn’t sound like any music you’ve heard, their voices are truly inspiring, good lyrics as well so as to support the message to
the populace at large. I’ll define this record as a ‘Gospel tune with the hip-hop feel’ and Skales delivered as well and it was really impressive. ‘They pay a lot of cash to see my face, I left a lot of legacy so I’m easy to trace it’s funny how I became the new craze, same industry, same life, new place’ . ‘I easily do things they don’t do, impossible is me tryna do you it’s more like me saying you ain’t my type I made it to the top without any high’ All I do is grow grow, grow, yesterday’s amateur is today’s Pro and I keep on doing better as the day goes, check my bank account I’m at the extra 0’s’. Skales balled on this record. Good job The Bridge. Good Job Sleekamo with the production. Listen and Enjoy!
