1. BLACK: ASIKO – DAREY FT. JOZI & ICE PRINCE

Mr. Art Alade; the Veteran Darey, bangs with another single produced by Chocolate City’s artist extraordinaire Jesse Jagz in collaboration with Soul Muzik team – glorious beat by Jesse, the notes by the keyboard is really pleasant and Darey delivers exceptionally on this beat. Da.LES of Jozi came on this record with that kinda Drake flow, Continue reading

MicCheck12 Roundup (Week 17, 2012)

Welcome to MicCheck12 Roundup. Here, we bring you (every saturday) a summary of the best songs released for a particular week and the order in which they rank. Obviously, this means our daily reviews would be reduced, meaning we would be able to focus on videos, albums and our Special articles during weekdays.

This week we analyse eight songs and give you the ranking in ascending order.

(Note: There’s a table after the write up showing the ranking of the songs)

8. Bust Me Brain (Freestyle) – Iyanya (Produced by D’Tunes)

PREACH: Coming in at eighth place this week, Iyanya brings to us this feel good

tune/freestyle which honestly is just a waste of studio resources (and session). D’Tunes  comes correct with this nice beat only for Iyanya’s delivery and flow to be weak and poor with remixed lines of other songs. C’mon – a job he didn’t even do well.
This is only a regression from his “Kukere” joint which is doing well on the radio airwaves. Continue reading

MicCheck12 Roundup (WEEK 16, 2012)

Welcome to the maiden edition of MicCheck12 Roundup. Here, we bring you (every saturday) a summary of the best songs released for a particular week and the order in which they rank. Obviously, this means our daily reviews would be reduced, meaning we would be able to focus on videos, albums and our Special articles during weekdays.

For the “Pilot” of this series, we have decided not to rank this edition. But watch out for subsequent releases: in our usual fashion, no one will be spared. Without further ado, let’s get it on.

1. Love Me Tonight – Ikechukwu.

KYOS: WFA’s (World Famous Academy) finest has dropped another single “Love Me Tonight”. Great Techno and dancehall synchronization from Baby Fresh, I think it was top notch.

The energy that Ikechukwu brings to this track actually overshadows the scantiness in the song’s lyrics; he gave it much enthusiasm which is a good recipe for captivating fans to a track like this. Ikechukwu exhibits fusion with Hip Hop and R n B without a fuss. Quite frankly, I’ve seen Ikechukwu go harder than this, but do not disregard the fact that this is definitely gonna be banging real soon in Naija clubs. His igbo intonation and the ability to rhyme with his native tongue has always been something that stands him and Nigga Raw out in originality.

Few lines I still can’t figure out – “…Absolutely nothing, dem no dey rate…its thanksgiving, ‘cause you’re the turkey with Continue reading

A-Q – Mo ti Lo (I’m so Gone) Ft. BB

BLACK: A-Q teamed up with Upcoming singer BB, it’s a lovely record. Mo ti Lo is his second single on the G.I.L.B.E.R.T album. Firstly, BB sounded a lot like Wizkid, although he tried carving his own style from Wizzy’s style, but could still hear Wizkid on the chorus. A-Q’s verses were not bad as well, he’s a rapper for the dance floor, so we ain’t gonna dwell on his bars or punch lines, it’s just the feel good rap. The production’s superb, love the beat. I prefer this record to Champagne and Rum though. Good job BB with the chorus. Listen and Enjoy!

SCORE: 3/5

PREACH: A-Q (Another question) does a nice job for me on this track but it could have been better. I don’t agree that this is a song for the dance floor and neither is A-Q. He is a rapper who is nice with the flow but sick with his lyrics and he aint afraid to say whatever is on his mind at any point. Go listen to GINGA ft Vector, Terry tha Rapman, et al and you would know what I am talking about. Nice beat and production though, average from Up-comer BB. “Yall need money ama lend you, and I no fit shout  Mo Gentle/ woo to the evil that men do, I do want I can and meant to/ Illuminati flow I bend to, now its back to the basics I sent you…”

SCORE: 2.75/5

ArtQuake Returns With Vector On “Terena”

BLACK: This Duo been missing, the last I heard of them was ALANTA. Now, look who they featured after the long break…VECTOR, how strategic can one be? Vector be doing it big, dude is just DOPE. TERENA is likened to groove, flexing, parole etc in this context. It’s got a niceeee tune as well, production’s good as well. Well, I think the only reason this record is gonna be a hit, would highly be as a result of Vector being featured on it. Good Music. Listen and Enjoy!

ArtQuake Ft. Vector – Terena.

GRANT: Hello, all ye party people – we got another tune for you, and its from the veteran duo . So, get downloading right away ‘cause you cannot go wrong with this one. Just a thought, can a rapper be over featured? The rate at which Tha Viper be on collaborations though…

SCORE: 2/5

LayLow – Meet Me At The Top (OFFICIAL VIDEO) ft Iceberg Slim, Cartair, Lui T, Terry Tha Rapman, Skales, Vector, Da Grin, Ludu & Gino

KYOS: Actually didn’t think I’ll like this track to be honest, but common, what was I thinking when some of my favorite rappers (who always clear haters’ doubts) were on the track. Cool video, y’all should enjoy!

Truth: I heard this track a while back though and I remember wondering why the song didn’t have a video! Was most impressed by Gino’s verse:”to get this high, you gon need more than hot air”. Makes you wonder where the dude’s been. Really hope Laylow drops a mixtape or album with this quality of hip hop real soon (fingers crosssed)

LIFE IS MUSIC – FBI Ft. Vector, Zephyre.

BLACK: So Vector happens to be the most featured rapper in the last 3weeks in Nigeria. YSG’s finest is definitely blazing the trail and surprisingly he hasn’t messed up any track, it’s absolutely fire when he’s on, good job Vector. This record is just Niceeeeee, so is the lovely voice of Zephyre, Buh the tempo of the music is just too cool. Lovely record though, good job FBI, you can trust…Vector didn’t disappoint on this record too. Listen and Enjoy!

LIFE IS MUSIC – FBI Ft. Vector, Zephyre.

GRANT: I’m a rock star baby!! Like literally mehn. This tune is just fresh – I don’t think there’s being anything like it in the industry for a while now, you know, slow tempo, electric guitar, some mad drum rolls – beat is off the hook I tell you. Vector leads FBI and Zephyre and they all came through – damn the babe has got a voice! This is a song for everyone ‘cause it sorta cuts across a lot of genres and it’s hugely philosophical too.  So, since we all already be feeling Vector, Imma quote some lines from FBI “She’s so beautiful and tender, pretty ladies wanna be her…Yo for better for worse, for you I strong, no be leather” and “Music she’s my honey, she’s my buddy, my accomplice… If you hating on her, better don’t like this”

SCORE: 4/5

B’ Robby – Tatafo Ft Vector

BLACK: ‘Tatafo’ basically refers to Enemies. B’Robby is still an upcoming act in the industry and he teams up with YSG’s finest to make this cool headed record about enemies that make noise…Could Vector be referring to Reminisce??? ‘I know peeps gon’ hate, all over your ears like beats from Dre, Diss all day, tryna get on Vector…The T-shirt way’..VEC’S Good Mehn Damn!!! ‘Maybe, you’re blind to the fact that I do not care, if you was a fruit you’ll not pear (Peer). Lovely hook and top notch production. Listen and Enjoy!

B' Robby - Tatafo Ft Vector

GRANT: Groovy beat and Vector salvaged this joint mehn. Yeah, salvaged. Err, who’s B’ Robby that he already got haters? Gotta admit he’s got a good voice and the good musical business sense to have Vector on his song though. Vector, on the other hand, could be referring to Reminisce “Ata” and other rappers for that matter. He had mad punch lines, as usual, but good luck with hearing them. So, it’s one (1) for Vector and one (1) for the beat.

SCORE: 2/5

Reminisce Replies Vector With “Ata”

BLACK: Tis’ a reply to Kitchen street by Vector and Sauce kid. It seems Reminisce and Vector are on some Beef scheme, if you listen closely to the beginning of this track, you’ll hear some lines from KITCHEN STREET (Download here) quoted by Reminisce – diss style. Reminisce spits so fast I couldn’t quote any line. We’re still expecting a reply from Vector though. It’s on.

Reminisce - Ata

GRANT: So, there’s definitely bad blood flowing between Vector and Reminisce! This is bittersweet ‘cause these two cats are totally top class MCs mehn and shouldn’t be going at each other but then, a beef definitely gon keep them on their toes and at each other, result’s mad music!!  With hard bars such as “I don’t f**k with rappers who tuck-in, never…city’s gone bonkers ‘cause of me (igboro ti daru), my klever”, “I’m outta the jungle, motherf**kers, I’m a lion…I’m also not nice (9ice), I’m not the father of Zion” and “At the end of the day, what y’all gon do though, nothing…I think its case closed motherf**kers, coffin” blended in English and Yoruba, Reminisce replies all lines of Vectors’, this joint wins on several levels.  Y’all gotta listen! (Highly recommended you download and listen to “Kitchen Street”, if you haven’t, to get a full picture).

Kitchen Street – Sauce Kid Ft. Vector

Black: SMG Boss ‘Sinzu’ teamed up with Vector on this record, well; Firstly, I really don’t like the beat and as for the lyrics, well I think Vector did better than Sauce kid. ‘Vec is a BEAST, Sauce is an ANIMAL… Look were we at, now you Sinzu (Seen zoo)’. Vec also said ‘I’m a Lord ya (Alordiah) like Eva’s last name’. ‘I come hard on the flow see men (Siemen) no Fijitsu’..Damn, Vector is ill. It ain’t easy thinking of
punches like that. But overall its just an O.K Record. Listen and Enjoy.

SCORE: 3/5

Grant:Like Black said, Vector went harder on this jam, despite having a verse as opposed to SauceKids’ two. That being said, big props to Sauce for the joint mehn – its true hip hop. The beat be banging hard lines such as “When it come to rap class, I be in the honor roll, I’m a terrorist behind bars, guatanamo” & “Tell them
niggas run it, gimme that, Chris Brown” by two of Naijas’ finest MCs into
your mental. This is a must for rapheads, hip hop believers and all those
aspiring to join the movement.
